Thinking about going electric?

You're not alone. EVs are quickly becoming the smart choice for drivers who want great performance, lower maintenance, and a smaller environmental footprint. If you're considering making the switch, we've answered some of the most common questions below to help you decide if an EV is right for you.

Q: EV Maintenance: Is it really that simple?
A: Yes-and that's one of the biggest perks. Electric vehicles have far fewer moving parts than gas-powered cars. Say goodbye to oil changes, spark plug replacements, and timing belts. You'll still want to stay on top of tire rotations, brake inspections, and battery health checks, but overall, maintenance is easier and often costs less over the life of the vehicle.

Q: How well do EVs hold their value?
A: EV resale values have been steadily improving as technology matures and demand grows. Battery condition, mileage, and brand reputation all play a role. Subaru's strong history of reliability boosts long-term confidence in its EV lineup.

Q: What's it like to drive an EV?
A: You'll notice it right away-quiet, quick, and smooth. With instant torque and a low center of gravity (thanks to battery placement), EVs deliver a zippy, responsive feel that often surprises first-time drivers.

Q: How long do EV batteries last-and are they covered?
A: Most EV batteries are built to last 8 to 15 years, depending on driving habits and climate. Subaru EVs include a battery warranty that typically covers 8 years or 100,000 miles, giving you solid peace of mind. Charging smart (avoiding extremes) can also help extend battery life.

Q: Are EVs safe?
A: Absolutely. EVs go through the same crash testing as any other vehicle. In fact, their low center of gravity and lack of a bulky engine can actually improve safety in certain collisions. Built-in battery safety systems help prevent and manage overheating or impact damage.  In addition, the Subaru Solterra is built with cutting-edge standard safety features like EyeSight® Driver Assist Technologies for extra peace of mind on every drive. The DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System, also standard, can help keep driver attention on the road ahead. Solterra Connect offers extra convenience and safety, linking you to help if you need assistance in addition to delivering available cloud navigation and Intelligent Assistant features.

Q: Are EVs truly better for the environment?
A: Yes. Even after factoring in battery production, EVs generate far fewer carbon emissions over their lifetime than traditional gas vehicles. The cleaner your energy source, the cleaner your drive.

Q: Can I trade in my current vehicle when I go electric?
A: Definitely. Whether you're driving a gas, hybrid, or even another EV, we accept trade-ins and will offer you a fair, no-pressure appraisal to make the transition smoother.

Q: How far can I go on a full charge?
A: Range varies by model, but many EVs today-including Subaru's-offer well over 200 miles on a full charge. That's more than enough for daily driving and local travel. For longer road trips, public charging networks are expanding rapidly.  The Solterra offers up to 227 miles of range.

Q: How long does it take to charge an EV?
A: It depends on the charger. A standard wall outlet (Level 1) adds just a few miles of range per hour. A Level 2 home charger can fully charge overnight. Public DC fast chargers can bring many EVs to 80% in 30-45 minutes.

Q: Can I install a charger at home?
A: Yes. Most EV owners install a Level 2 charger in their garage or driveway. Installation is straightforward and may qualify for rebates or tax credits. We're happy to refer local electricians or help you find the right equipment.

Q: What happens if I run out of charge?
A: It's rare-but if it happens, it's similar to running out of gas. Roadside assistance can tow you to the nearest charger. EVs also give plenty of warning when your battery is low, and most come with apps that help plan charging stops.

Q: What EV incentives are available?
A: You may be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $7500, depending on the vehicle. Oregon drivers may also qualify for additional state rebates, utility discounts, or home charger installation incentives. Our team can walk you through what applies in your case.
